What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Dance and sing for SpringFCHS Variety Show a stroll in the park
Fayette County High Schools 28th Variety Show is no ordinary walk in the park. Starting Thursday and running through Sunday, the select chorus will take the audience on a virtual trip through the world-renowned Central Park and Chastain Park, a water park, a national park, and an amusement park. Those that attend will hear a variety of music ranging from Broadway show tunes to pop hits to the classics. Janice Folsom, the choral director at the school, creates a new theme each year for the show, and she and Richard Prouty, assistant choral director, work tirelessly to produce this professional show for the community. The dedicated members of the choir also work hard each week to perfect their performance. The members include All-State chorus and band participants, accomplished theatrical actors and actresses, and top-rated quartet and trio singing groups. The chorus itself scored straight superiors in this years choral festival. The shows family oriented entertainment is suitable for all ages. The Variety Show brings pride and happiness to the community each year, and this years Everything Music: A Walk in the Park will be one of the best. Fresh from their trip to New York City, the select chorus sings several songs in the variety show from shows that they saw on Broadway. The choir welcomes the audience first by singing Good Morning Central Park (an interpolation of Good Morning Baltimore) and later sings Cooties, both from the Broadway hit Hairspray. Soloists Haley Murphy and Lydia Myers sing Popular and Defying Gravity from Wicked, the instant theatrical success. Also included in the show is the popular song from Grease, We Go Together, to which the chorus learned choreography at a dance workshop in NYC. With such professional planning and direction, the show is fabulous entertainment. After strolling through Central Park in the opening numbers, the scene shifts to Chastain Park where the trio and quartet serenade the crowd with songs such as My Special Angel and Reach Out for Me. Then, prepare to get wet as the choir enters into a water park for a fun and hilarious segment with a Water Ballet and a Yellow Polka Dot Bikini. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Watch out for wild animals as the chorus then embarks through a national park as Happy Wanderers. Once through the woods, the singers venture through a wild amusement park where there will be a Spinnin Wheel, and everyone might just get Dizzy. Finally with Everything Music, the audience is sure to cut loose with the choirs energizing finale: Footloose. Come out to experience a fantastic night of beautiful voices and exciting dances. The performances are April 14, 15, and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and April 17 at 3 p.m. in the F.A. Sams Auditorium. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the cost of $5 for students and $7 for adults by calling Janice Folsom at 770-460-3540 ext.128. Tickets may also be purchased at the door each evening for $8.
