Bad Links? | Teams enter meat of region scheduleBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The baseball season is nearing the halfway point and by the end of the week teams should have a good idea of where they stand in the region and what they will need to do to ensure a run into the playoffs. In 4-AAAAA, Fayette County is 3-0 in the region with a game at Starrs Mill today and at Union Grove on Friday. The Tigers are currently ranked seventh in Class AAAAA in a GaSports.com poll. Starrs Mill is out of the top 10 but still on top of the region. They will host Fayette County tonight at 5:30. It is a game that many have circled as one of the premiere matches of the season and should live up to the expectations as both teams have strong offenses and good pitching. In 4-AAAA, Woodward Academy is on top with a 5-1 region record with McIntosh below them at 5-3. The Chiefs took on Haralson County yesterday after the paper went to press and will play at Lithia Springs tomorrow. They will play at Hardaway on Saturday at 1 p.m. Sandy Creek is 3-3 in the region. They took on Chapel Hill yesterday and will play at Douglas County at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow. Whitewater picked up a 14-7 region win over Haralson County last week but also got another region loss, falling to Villa Rica 14-10. In the loss, Whitewater had 16 hits. They also had 16 hits in their win. Ryan Johnson, Justin Carpenter and Jonathan Sholar all went 3-for-5 in the win with Sholar hitting two homeruns. Carpenter was the winning pitcher and Josh McDonald earned the save. Coach Frank Dixon was pleased with his teams defense, as they only committed one error in the win. The Wildcats will play at Alexander tomorrow and will host Forest Park at 1 p.m. on Saturday. In 5-A, Landmark Christian is on top of the region with a 6-0 record and a home game against St. Francis scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday. They played at Whitefield yesterday. Landmark is ranked seventh in Class A in a GaSports.com poll. Our Lady of Mercy has only one region win thus far. They will host Mt. Paran at 5 pm. today. The Bobcats played at Mt. Zion, Carroll yesterday. |
