Bad Links? | Booth celebrates exceptional childrenBuilding Brighter Futures for students with disabilities was the theme of this years Exceptional Childrens Week, March 7-11, at J.C. Booth Middle School. The week opened with the video, Dont Laugh at Me, beamed to the whole school, followed by a lesson on acceptance. Students engaged in discussions on how they treat others and what they can do to help all people. Each morning, students answered trivia questions on famous Americans with disabilities. Students learned that having a disability does not mean that a person cannot accomplish great things in life. A schoolwide poster contest encouraged understanding and hope for the future for children with disabilities. The posters were judged by a faculty member and a Peachtree City Rotarian on their artistic and creative incorporation of this years theme. Each student who entered the contest received a prize donated by Beef OBradys, McDonalds or Chick-Fil-A. The Peachtree City Rotary Club donated monetary prizes for the top three winners. Kaia Hampton won a first-place $50 award. Shannen Chabot won second place with a $30 prize, and Scott Thomas won a $20 third-place award. It is our hope at Booth Middle School, said principal Ted Lombard, that by raising awareness of other peoples special needs, our students will include exceptional people in their adult lives and make the future a brighter place for us all. |
