Bad Links? | Protest building for mayors commentsBrown alleged Tom Farr made money from Dev. Auth. positionBy JOHN MUNFORD A movement is afoot in Peachtree City to protest a statement from Mayor Steve Brown during a heated lunch exchange with former Mayor Bob Lenox. The confrontation was published in the Feb. 2 edition of The Citizen. Specifically, a group of citizens, including current Fayette County Commission Chairman Greg Dunn and all five living former Peachtree City mayors, is protesting Browns characterization of Tom Farr, the former chairman of the Development Authority of Peachtree City. The information comes from an ad placed in last Fridays edition of The Citizen. Organizers of the anti-Brown effort contacted by e-mail declined to elaborate further about the effort. In the heated exchange detailed in the Feb. 2 story, Brown alleged that some of Lenoxs friends made a lot of money during Lenoxs administration, and Lenox challenged Brown to name one. Brown replied, Im sure Tom Farr doing all of the Development Authority bonds and all of that stuff, referring to Farrs position as a banker at Peachtree National Bank. Lenox became incensed and called Browns comments disgusting. That man had more honor in his little fingernail than you got in your whole damn body. Dont tell me that my friend Tom Farr made money. Tom Farr gave to this community. The Friends of Tom Farr is organizing to protest the mayors remarks at an assembly at City Hall Friday May 6 at 4 p.m. to read aloud this call to action and to present it and all of our names to the media and the mayor, the ad states. The advertisement noted that Farr did not engage in the kinds of divisive and mean-spirited activities now practiced by the current mayor of Peachtree City whose actions seem more directed towards promoting himself than in bringing benefits to his community and fellow citizens. Using Tom Farrs name on our banner, we are putting on notice the current mayor of Peachtree City and asking him to cease and desist engaging in this type of tactic to advance himself and his own political and personal agenda, the ad states. We have grown weary of this type of behavior and we feel it is time to express our outrage publicly, both now and when we go to the polls in the upcoming municipal election. Citizens who feel the same are invited to pledge their name to the cause also by faxing in a form contained in the ad or by sending an e-mail to FriendsOfTom@msn.com. |
