Bad Links? | Whitewater playing to teams tough, Fayette faces LovejoyThe Whitewater Lady Wildcats were handed their first loss since February on Friday but at least it came at the hands of the top ranked team in AAAA, the McIntosh Lady Chiefs. Ranked 10th in AAAA, the Lady Wildcats were down 4-0 in the second half when Bailey Powell found the back of the net for Whitewaters lone goal. McIntoshs Jesse Lenze would score her second goal of the evening five minutes later to give the Lady Chiefs their 5-1 win. Monica Hogan scored three goals and notched an assist, while Lenze added two assists and Kelsey Quinn added one assist. In the boys game that followed, Whitewater tied the top ranked Chiefs 2-2. Ryan Pugh got the first goal for Whitewater off of an assist from matt McCrite and the second goal was scored by Daniel Higginbotham after Kyle Westons shot was deflected by McIntosh goalkeeper Matthew Rogers. Whitewater had won the night before, defeating Lovett 3-1 with goals from Brian Forero, Chandler Caudelle and Victor Murray. On Saturday, Whitewater beat North Springs 1-0 with a goal from Forero off of an assist from Josh Adair. The Lady Wildcats played at Upson Lee yesterday after the paper went to press and will play at North Cobb tonight at 5:30 p.m. The boys will host Alexander at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow. In other games from last Friday, Fayette Countys Lady Tigers handed Lovejoy a 3-0 loss to stay perfect in the region. Erin Zaworski scored the first goal for Fayette County on an assist from Christine Magee. Alex Bennett got the second goal with Meghan Spalviero and Kayla Cole assisting. Jenny Ross scored the tird and final goal with a penalty kick in the second half. The Fayette County boys tied Lovejoy 2-2. The Tigers were up 2-1 at the half with Chris Rawson scoring with an assist from Aleksejs Baranovs and Bobby Dodd scoring with an assist from Aaron McCord. McCord was injured on the play and the Tiger defense made a mistake 30 seconds in to the second half. We put the pressure on ourselves by allowing them to tie us. We played a good half and a decent second half but you have to play the whole 80 minutes to get a win. The guys played hard we just have to keep working to get better, said Coach Ben Thacker of the Tigers. Fayette Countys boys and girls played at Union Grove last night and will play at Eagles Landing tomorrow. |
