Bad Links? | High turnout for reading campaignNearly 65 percent of the students participating in Fayette Middles 25-book reading campaign have met their winter reading goals. The challenge was to read 19 books from September to March 18. Out of the 110 students on Team 6A, 72 of them met the goal and will be rewarded with a popcorn and soda social at the school March 25. At the beginning of the school year, Team 6A teachers Georgia Frisch, Wendy Broich, Kim Fisher and Carol Saboda challenged their students to read 25 books by the end of the year. To make the challenge more manageable, they divided it into four goals with incentives for students who met their book quotas. The first goal was to read six books in one month, September to October. With such a short turnaround time, teachers were surprised to find that 40 students, 36 percent, met the goal. Those students were treated to breakfast. The second goal, to read 12 books by December 16, proved to be more successful than the first with 51 students (46 percent) meeting the challenge. Those students enjoyed an ice cream social. The yearlong challenge will end in May with the final reward being a pizza party and movie for those who achieve the 25 book goal by May 20. |
