Bad Links? | Massive industrial project headed for reviewBy JOHN THOMPSON Coweta Countys latest industrial project is so large that several government agencies will have to review the project to determine its regional impact. Coweta County Development Authority director Bill Harrison said an unnamed company is exploring the possibility of opening a 1 million sq.ft distribution in the Creekside Industrial Park located near Interstate 85. Weve got about 100 acres left in Creekside and they would use 80, Harrison said. The Development Authority has gone ahead and reserved the additional acreage for the prospect, and Harrison said the paperwork for the Development of Regional Impact has begun. The main groups that will be looking over the application are the Chattahoochee-Flint Regional Development Center and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, he said. If the company locates in Coweta County, it would be a feather in the countys cap. For the last few years, the county has been aggressively trying to lure industry to the county-owned Shenandoah and Creekside industrial parks. Weve got a great location with interstate access and were only 25 minutes to the airport, Harrison added. If the prospect comes to town, the vacancy rate at Creekside would be almost zero. There are several companies looking at tracts in Shenandoah, and after theyre filled, the county may be out of the industrial recruiting business. It may be time to let the private sector take over. Theres already another 800 acre industrial park thats being developed by local businessmen, he added. |
