Bad Links? | Panthers star 05 with two winsBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The Starrs Mill Panthers varsity baseball team is off to a great start. They have played two games so far this season and have won both by a score of 11-1. The Panthers, ranked 24th in the nation by Baseball America, defeated Griffin on Tuesday and Whitewater on Wednesday. In the Griffin game, Ryan Lockett went two-for-three at the plate, driving in two runs, while Carter Scurry drove in three runs. Blake Nation got the start on the mound, going three and a third innings, striking out four batters and walking one. Nick Terry earned the save, pitching two and two-thirds of an inning and also striking out four batters. In the Whitewater game, the Wildcats struck first when Starrs Mill walked in a run but it was all Panthers after that. Carter Scurry, who went three-for-four with four RBIs, drove in two runs in the first with a single, while Joey Lewis, who also went three-for-four, with three RBIs, drove in two in the second with a double. The Panthers would score off an error in the third and an error in the fourth, while Spencer Shelton, Lewis and Scurry would drive in runs in the fifth. The game was called in the fifth as the Panthers had a 10 run lead and no outs. T.J. Stillwell got the win for Starrs Mill, pitching four innings, giving up two hits and four walks and striking out five batters. Alex Hunt pitched an inning of relief. The Panthers will play at McIntosh at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and will host Northgate on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Other games this weekend will include Sandy Creek at Lovejoy today at 5:30 p.m. with McIntosh hosting Lovejoy on Monday at 5:30 p.m. |
