Bad Links? | City fire department receives $56K Homeland Security grantThe U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded the Fayetteville Fire Department a $56,159 grant through the 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The City of Fayetteville will use the funds to install a vehicle exhaust removal system at each of the Citys two fire stations. The system is designed to connect directly to the exhaust system of each emergency apparatus and capture the diesel exhaust generated during apparatus operation. The system will virtually eliminate the harmful exposure of exhaust fumes to personnel and equipment housed in the stations. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments. With Fiscal Year 2004 funds, $745 million will be awarded to several thousand fire departments throughout the United States. The grant program distributes funds through several different categories such as firefighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, emergency medical services programs, and fire prevention and safety programs in local departments. |
