Bad Links? | Starrs Mill sending 20 to All-State bandFollowing a grueling round of final auditions held at Houston County High in early January, Starrs Mill High students recently learned they had earned 20 elite chairs or places in the upcoming 2005 All-State Band and Orchestra Festival in Savannah. The number of students honored ranks second only to Lassiter High in Marietta, according to Starrs Mill band director Scott King. The students worked very hard to achieve this goal, said King. Many hours of preparation coupled with the outstanding training each student received in middle school made this possible. Students from every corner of the state, regardless of school size, compete against each other for one of the coveted spots in All-State, coordinated by the Georgia Music Educators Association in Jonesboro. But All-State isnt the only big event coming up for Starrs Mill. Last weekend, it partnered with Rising Starr Middle School to host the District 6 Honor Band, drawing hundreds of middle and high school students to the South Complex from throughout Fayette, Coweta, Henry and Clayton counties. On Feb. 19, the Starrs Mill Wind Ensemble will perform at the University of South Carolina Band Clinic as a guest-performing band. A concert is planned for Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Duke Auditorium to showcase the music prepared for the USC performance. |
