Bad Links? | Tyrone K-Kids changing lives across boundariesStudents in the K-Kids program at Tyrone Elementary are working on Changing Lives Across Boundaries, the theme of their latest campaign to raise money for the counties damaged by the tsunami. During the two-week fundraiser, students gave up video game and ice cream money, cleaned out their piggybanks and found other creative ways to earn money to donate to the cause. In order to bring cultural awareness to the students about Southeastern Asia, a cultural fact was broadcast during the schools morning announcements each day. A total of $240 was raised. This is not the first project the K-Kids have formulated to help communities destroyed by a natural disaster. The club raised $340 for Eisenhower Elementary School in Lake Park, Fla. The K-Kids created this project in conjunction to promoting Red Ribbon Week with the theme Bound By Knowledge Not By Drugs. The members performed skits emphasizing the importance of contributing to society and the harm drugs do to oneself and the community. The money raised was used to help replace school supplies following the series of hurricanes that hit Lake Park in September and October 2004. |
