Obituaries

Edith Young Brown, 91, Fairburn, died Jan. 16, 2005. She was born July 30, 1913 in Jasper County, daughter of the late John Harlan and Cynthia Clyde Weaver Young. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Ray Brown. She was a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

Graveside services were at Camp Memorial Gardens, Fayetteville, with the Rev. John Weber officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Rae B. Frazier, Peachtree City; grandchildren, Beth and Greg Amerson, Diana and J. P. Roberts, Amy and Tim Stiene, and Sharon Huston; great-grandchildren, Sara Gomez, Bobby Amerson, Dustin Amerson, Mackenzie Hairr, Jill Amerson, Dalton Hairr, Brice Hairr, Josh Roberts, Johnny Roberts, Rayner Huston, Hayden Stiene, and Andrew Stiene; and great-great-grandchildren, Julia Gomez and Dianna Cisneros.

Jordan Funeral Home, Monticello, Ga., was in charge.

Joseph Lanford Tate

Joseph Lanford Tate, 67, Peachtree City, formerly of Gainesville, Fla., died Jan. 23, 2005. He was born Jan. 29, 1937 in Columbia, Ala. son of the late Rufus E. and Lossie Register Tate. He was formerly an electrical contractor both self-employed and as a superintendent for Bill Preston Electric in Gainesville. He was a founding organizer and board member of Gainesville’s non-joint electrical apprenticeship program that later became Master Trades Committee of the Greater Gainesville Area Association for technical training through Sante Fe Community College in Gainesville. He was a member of the Flat Creek Golf Club, Peachtree City, and the University of Florida Golf Course, He was previously a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and served on many committees. He was currently a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church and was employed there a Facilities Manager.

A memorial service was at Peachtree City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Hodges officiating. A gathering will be held Feb. 5, 2005 at the Fellowship Hall of Wesley United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Helen B. Tate, Peachtree City; sons, Joseph Keith and Millie Tate, and David Kelly and Amy Tate, all of Gainesville, Fla.; a daughter, Lynne and Benne Parten, Peachtree City; seven grandchildren; and brothers, Dr. Robert Tate and Earle Tate, both of Cape Coral Fla., and David Tate, Wimberly, Texas.

Reva Lee Shannon

Reva Lee Shannon, 88, Riverdale, Fayette County, died Jan. 23, 2005. She was born April 29, 1916 in Oconee County, S. C. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, E. Harris Shannon. She was retired from Nabisco in 1979 after 31 years of service. She was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church, the Joy Club, and the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Christian Travel Club, and enjoyed traveling with her family.

Services were at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Randy Wood and the Rev. Dr. J. W. Wallis officiating. Interment was at College Park Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Donald Shannon, Jonesboro; daughters, Mary White, Jonesboro, and Gail and Carl Wills, Greensboro, N. C.; grandchildren, Cynthia White Keen, Allison White Greenberg, Lea Shannon Wainwright, and Jeff Shannon; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Keen, MaryAnn Keen Ben Keen, D. J. Greenburg, Sarah Greenberg, Todd Wainwright, and Travis Wainwright.

Irene Blair Scarbrough

Irene Blair Scarbrough, Tyrone, died Jan. 25, 2005. She was born in Fayette County, daughter of Homer Melvin and Georgia Alice Flowers Blair. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, A. J. Scarbrough.

Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. James “Jim” Burdette, and the Rev. Faren Roper officiating. Interment was at Sharon Memorial Gardens, Tyrone.

Survivors include a son, Gary and Aime Scarbrough, Senoia; a daughter, Gail and Mike Wilson, Newnan; a brother, Howard and Louise Blair, Tyrone; a sister, Ruby McElwaney, Tyrone; grandchildren, Lane and Heather Hale, Justin Hale, Megan Scarbrough, Cody Scarbrough, Mark Wilson, and Michelle Wilson; and a great-granddaughter, Vanessa Hale.
