The fair will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday with some books available at prices below retail. Posters and other education related items will also be available for purchase. To encourage students to participate in the book fair, the school is having a mask decorating contest for the theme, Read a Great Tale. The mask must be that of an animal with a tail. The book fairs theme will be carried over to Parent Night Feb. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m., where students can participate in the Guess the Number of Tails in a fish bowl to win a prize. Fayette Middle advances in academic bowlA team from Fayette Middle School was among the winners in the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Academic Bowl for Middle Grades regional competitions Jan. 8. The four winning teams from that competition will advance to the State Finals Feb. 7 at the 755 Club at Turner Field in Atlanta. The PAGE Academic Bowl for Middle Grades is sponsored by PAGE and the PAGE Foundation. The Academic Bowl features teams of middle school students fielding questions on subjects ranging from Georgia history to mathematics, science, literature and the performing arts. Statewide, more than 2,000 students compete at the local, regional and state levels of the PAGE Academic Bowl for Middle Grades. It is one of several programs of academic excellence sponsored by the PAGE Foundation. Cleveland Crocs embrace bucket brigadesStudents and faculty at Cleveland Elementary have begun a tradition of honoring staff members called Bucket Brigades. Four times a year the Cleveland Crocodiles line the halls as the schools song, Croc Rockin at Cleveland, fills the air. Students drop thank-you notes, appreciation pictures and sweet treats in custom-made buckets as honorees pass through the school. The Bucket Brigades are sponsored by the schools CARE (Children at Risk in Education) team and are designed to give students an opportunity to practice thanking others and to learn that they have the wonderful ability to make others feel special. CARE team members personalize the buckets for each staff member and introduce them on the schools television system before the brigade begins. In October, Clevelands bus drivers were honored, and the schools custodians in November. The Crocodile Cafe workers and after school staffwill be honored this spring. |
