Shiffert to sign baseball book, Jan. 25

To true baseball fans, the season never ends. So, at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 25, devotees of the National Pastime will be gathering at the Clayton State University Bookstore to talk baseball with Clayton State Director of University Relations John Shiffert.

Shiffert will be signing copies of his new baseball history book, “Baseball: 1862 to 2003,” which is currently in stock at the Clayton State Bookstore, located on the first floor of the new University Center at Clayton State’s main campus in Morrow.

The book signing/baseball chat will run from noon until 2 p.m. on Jan. 25. Any baseball-related subjects from 1862 to the present are fair game for discussion, including such topics as the Braves’ remarkable (though not unprecedented) history of post season futility, and the team’s prospects for the 2005 season.

“’Baseball: 1862 to 2003’ is baseball like you’ve never seen it before,” said Shiffert. “It’s a book that combines baseball’s past with baseball’s present… comparing events and players from as far back as 1862 with the events of the 2003 season, and using just enough statistics to illuminate those events and players.

“’Baseball: 1862 to 2003’ brings alive the past in a unique way, by reminding us that there’s nothing new under the sun, at least, not as far as baseball goes.”
