Before 2004 comes to an end, the Tyrone Planning Commission has a lot of work to do.
Thursday nights agenda is chock-full of items, including several rezoning requests. But the item getting the most attention is Sonic Drive-Ins request to build in the town.
Town Manager Barry Amos said the restaurant is asking the commission for a reduction in the required buffer. This property is part of the PUD [planned unit development] and the developer of the property agreed to a 30-foot buffer. Sonic is asking the buffer to be reduced to 17.5 feet, Amos said.
If approved, the drive-in-only restaurant would be located across Ga. Highway 74 from the Publix shopping center. Sonic is known for its sometimes roller-skate-wearing servers who deliver orders to waiting cars.
Other items include:
A public hearing on a rezoning request from Chip Young. Young wants to develop nearly 37 acres on Laurelwood Road as two-acre home sites.
A public hearing on a request from Madhusudan Patel to amend the text in the zoning ordinance. Patel wants to open a dry cleaning plant, but the towns zoning ordinance only allows dry-cleaning pick-up in the PUD zoning category.
He claims it wont be polluting, Amos said.
A proposal by Greese Monkey to locate in the PUD on Ga. Highway 74.
A further discussion of the conservation residential subdivision. Last month, the town added this new zoning classification. But Amos said City Councilwoman Lyn Redwood wants further discussion of the issue.
She wants all environmentally-sensitive areas to be taken out of the total acreage before any lots are approved, Amos said. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Tyrone Town Hall.
