Juniors hit the tees in annual PTC tournamentWhile some of you were shopping for your Christmas gifts, some die-hard junior golfers set their sights on the championship trophy at the Second Annual Peachtree City Junior Golf Championship. This event was presented by the Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Department and hosted by the Flat Creek Club. The tournament consisted of two divisions: 13-15 and 16-18. In the 13-15 year old division, Austin Barreras of Peachtree City captured his first tournament win. Barreras shot a 41 and a 39 for an 80. He actually shot a 79 but didnt double check his scorecard and signed for an 80. It was still good enough for a one stroke win over Adam Baaklini of Fayetteville who shot an 81. In the older division, Wade Holland of Fayetteville shot a 77 to win by two strokes over Andy Smith of Fayetteville who shot a 79. Holland shot a 40 on the front and made a great comeback with two birdies and three bogeys on the back nine for a 37. Tournament Director Art Sivertsen said that he is hoping to offer another junior tournament in the spring. He is also hoping to offer a Peachtree City Mens Amateur tournament in the spring and eventually a Ladies Amateur Tournament and a Senior Amateur Tournament down the road. For more information on these tournaments contact Art Sivertsen at 770 631-2542.
