Churches schedule Christmas services

This weekend, Christians in the Fayette, Coweta and South Fulton areas will join Christians around the world as they celebrate one of the holiest of Christian observances, the birth of Jesus Christ.

Church leaders encourage all in the community to attend the church of their choice and to bring friends, neighbors and other family members to share in this holy celebration.

An alphabetical listing appears below of those churches which have announced their Christmas weekend activities.

• Bethany United Methodist Church will have a Candlelight Communion service Friday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. Bethany is at 607 Rivers Rd. in north Fayette County. For information, call 770-964-6999 or 770-964-6992.

• Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church will have a Service of Rejoicing Friday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. A nursery will be available. At 11 p.m., the church will have a Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service. Christ Our Hope is at 2165 Ga. Hwy. 138, SW, Riverdale. Phone 770-997-7117.

• Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church will have Communion Services Friday, Dec. 24, at 6 and 9 p.m. with carols, scripture, prayers and a short message. No nursery will be provided. • The Episcopal Church of the Nativity will have a Service of Holy Eucharist designed for families with children Friday, Dec. 24, at 3:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., a traditional Candlelight Service with Holy Eucharist will be held; A musical prelude will begin at 10 p.m., followed by the 10:30 p.m. Festal Service of Holy Eucharist. On Sunday, Dec. 26, a Service of Lessons and Carols will be held at both the 9 and 11 a.m. services. Nativity is at 130 Antioch Rd. off Ga. Hwy. 92 south, Fayetteville. •The First Baptist Church of Fairburn will be having a Christmas Eve Service, this Friday at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend this Candlelight Communion Service. For more information please call the church office at 770-964-1431.

• Fayetteville Christian Church will have a Christmas Eve Service Friday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m., featuring 45 minutes of carols, candles and Christmas memories. The church is at New Hope Road and Hickory Road in Fayetteville. Phone 770-461-8763.

• Fayetteville First Baptist Church will have worship, fellowship and the Lord’s Supper Friday, Dec. 24, at 5:45 p.m. and 11 p.m. First Baptist is at 205 Stonewall Ave. (Ga. Hwy. 54 east) in Fayetteville. Phone 770-461-8378.

• Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will have Christmas Eve Communion and Candlelight Services Friday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Childcare is available for the 4 and 6 p.m. services. There will be only one worship service Sunday, Dec. 26, and no Sunday school or MYF. First Methodist is at 175 E. Lanier Ave. (Ga. Hwy. 54 west), Fayetteville. • Greek Orthodox Mission of Peachtree City will have a Service of the Great Hours of the Nativity Friday, Dec. 24, at 9 a.m. Adult and youth parishioners are invited to assist with readings. At 7 p.m. an Evening Vigil is scheduled; at 8 p.m. Nativity Orthros and at 9 p.m., Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. • Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church will have a Candlelight Service in the sanctuary Friday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. Harp’s Crossing is at 1183 Ga. Hwy. 92 South, Fayetteville. Phone 770-461-5318.

• Inman United Methodist Church will have Christmas Eve Communion Services Friday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. The church is on Hill’s Bridge Road in Inman, off Ga. Hwy. 92 south. Phone 770-461-2123.

• Jonesboro First Baptist Church will have a Christmas Eve Service Friday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 26, only the 10 a.m. service will be held. Jonesboro First Baptist is at 147 Church St., Jonesboro. Phone 770-478-6710.

• Liberty Baptist Church will have a Carols and Candlelight Service Friday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. Liberty is at 1077 Highway 314, Riverdale, 770-461-5644.

• McDonough Road Baptist Church will have a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Friday, Dec. 24, 6 p.m. The church is at 352 McDonough Road, east of Fayetteville. Phone 770-460-5423.

• Outreach International Center will have a Christmas Eve Communion Service Friday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m., featuring carols and sharing with children of African-American Christmas practices. Outreach is at 1091 South Jeff Davis Dr., Fayetteville. Phone 770-719-0303.

• Peachtree City Christian Church will have Christmas Eve Communion Services Friday, Dec. 24, at 5 and 7 p.m. Spanish translation will be provided. The church is at 500 Kedron Drive on the corner of Highway 74. Phone 770-487-9711.

• Peachtree City United Methodist Church will hold a children’s service, “Open Your Present” Friday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m. featuring a dramatic presentation of “The CHRISTmas Carol” with actors, puppetry arts, children’s choir and congregational singing. The service will conclude with the serving of communion. A nursery will be available for infants through age 2. At 7, 9 and 11 p.m., traditional Candlelight Communion Services will be held. A nursery for infants through age four will be available at the 7 p.m. service only. The church is at 225 Robinson Rd., across from Mowell’s Funeral Home near Ga. Hwy. 54 in Peachtree City.

• Prince of Peace Lutheran Church will have a Candlelight Service in the Life Center Friday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m. “Living Nativity” Candlelight Communion Services are planned for 9 and 11 p.m. in the sanctuary. Visit the Web site, www.popdove.com.

• Providence United Methodist Church will have a Family Service, with all children present participating in the Nativity, Friday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. At 7 and 11 p.m., the church will have carols, communion and candle lighting. • St. Andrew’s in-the-Pines Episcopal Church will have a Children’s Christmas Pageant presented by children and youth Friday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. A Christmas sing-along featuring favorite carols will be held at 10:30 p.m., followed by a Festival Choral Mass at 11 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day), at 10 a.m., the church will host a Holy Communion Service. There will be no 6 p.m. service on Christmas Day. Regular services resume Sunday, Dec. 26. St. Andrew’s is at 316 Peachtree Pkwy. north, Peachtree City. • St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church will have a Children’s Mass (featuring the children’s choir) Friday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated at 9 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 26, Christmas morning Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. and Vigil Mass at 5 p.m. Sunday Mass will be celebrated Sunday, Dec. 26, at 10 a.m.. All Masses will be held at East Coweta High School’s cafeteria, Ga. Hwy. 154 (McCollum-Sharpsburg Road), Sharpsburg.

• Turin United Methodist Church will have a Contemporary Service Friday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m., featuring a visit and special reading from Santa Claus. At 9 p.m., a Traditional Candlelight Communion Service is planned. Turin UMC is at 20 Longstreet Ave. in Turin. Phone 770-599-3169.
