Jernigans Gifts recently reopened their doors after expanding the shop to double its original size. The newly remodeled business at 10 Broad Street and U.S. Highway 29 in Fairburn has filled up the extra space with a wide variety of unique gifts for the holidays.
From the trees to the ornaments and all the decorative and fun items surrounding them, virtually everything in the store is for sale. Special items include Byers Choice Carolers, which have been very popular this season and Old World Christmas Ornaments. Another favorite are the Vera Bradley quilted handbags.
The family-run shop began 15 years ago when Ernest Jernigan, owner of Jernigans Hardware and his wife, Becky decided to transform the garden center of the hardware store into a special Christmas section. Christmas in the Garden Center was such a great success that one patron bought an entire tree complete with decorations. At that point the Jernigans knew they had something different they could offer the community and plans were made to open the gift shop.
Ernest and Beckys daughter, Julie White helps to manage the store. With the help of longtime employee, Marcia Privett who has been with the shop for 14 years, and a handful of seasonal help, the shop has been hopping since they reopened their doors December 13.
We find a lot of our items at the Atlanta Gift Mart. Department 56 is one of our best vendor sources. Julie White explained showing off the various displays and areas of the shop that demand the shoppers close attention. There is a great deal to look at and choose from. Many handcrafted items are available including childrens toys. A huge selection of collectible University of Georgia gifts commands their own corner.
There are regular gift items such as jewelry, charm bracelets and decorative pieces available year round. The gift shop shifts gears throughout the year readying itself for other holidays such as Valentines Day, Easter, and Halloween. Its a sure bet that a visit to Jernigans gifts will always turn up something new and different for South Fulton shoppers to see.
The store is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are closed on Sundays.
Jernigans Hardware located next door has been a Fairburn staple since 1968. Between the two businesses, the Jernigan family has got it covered from the everyday to Christmas day.
