There were several wrestling tournaments over the weekend and the local teams, preparing for the county duals at McIntsoh on Tuesday, performed well.
Starrs Mill hosted the Starrs Mill Invitational and placed third with 191.50 total points. The Panthers had two individual champions, Stephen Savage (125) and Bradley Connor (215). Savage was also named the tournaments most outstanding wrestler in the lightweight class. Cory Radcliffe (130) and Brandon Witta (140) placed third overall while D.J. Wright (119) and Patrick Kellerman (160) placed fifth. Whitewaters Jordan Strain (130) placed sixth overall.
In the Brookwood Invitational, Fayette County placed fifth overall with a score of 94.50. Colin Evans (160) placed first and Matt Dyer (215) placed second. Fayettes Drake McCoy (275) was the individual champion in his weight class in the 12th annual Beast of the East tournament. He defeated Dennis Landolt from Holy Cross, 7-4 in the championship match.
Fayette County, McIntosh, Our Lady of Mercy, Sandy Creek, Starrs Mill and Whitewater met on Tuesday in the county duals. Results were not available when the Wednesday paper went to press.
