New restaurant coming to Fayette PavilionBy LEE WILLIAMS Shrimp scampi will soon be a short drive away now that a new seafood restaurant has set its sights on Fayetteville. The Georgia Shrimp Company is expected to move into an unoccupied space in Fayette Pavilion on Ga. Highway 85 this winter, but plans to modify the structure are still working its way through the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Office, Fayetteville Senior Planner Eldridge Gunn indicated. Company officials chose a space between Moes and E.B. Games. But company officials first want to change the front facade of the building, a venture that would require majority approval from the Fayetteville P&Z Commission, officials said. Planning and Zoning Director Jahnee Prince is charged with the project. Fayetteville staff assistant Bibi Alli indicated the eatery would be a plus since many residents have been longing for a seafood restaurant to hit Fayetteville, particularly Red Lobster. "This will be the first shrimp company in Fayetteville," Alli said. Another Georgia Shrimp Company store located off Hwy. 74 in Peachtree City has already opened its doors, said Darrell Baker of Thomas Enterprises. The lease has been executed and they are about to begin construction in January or February, Baker said of the new Fayetteville eatery that is in a partnership with Famous Fish Co. in Peachtree City. Thomas Enterprises sold Fayette Pavilion to Inland Co. Real Estate Co. in Atlanta. The restaurant will be close to television mogul Ted Turner's restaurant, Montana Grill. The issue was listed on the P&Z Commission's Dec. 7 agenda. However, the item was tabled until Jan. 11 and Jan. 25 since a representative for the company did not attend and the revised development plans were unavailable for review, city officials said. |
