Four local players named to all state softball teamsBy MICHAEL BOYLAN
Fayette Countys Ashley Holcombe was recently named to the AAAAA all state team. Holcombe, a catcher, recently signed a letter of intent to attend and play for the University of Alabama. This was her fourth year being named to the All State team. Holcombe had a .455 batting average, 35 hits, eight RBI and 25 runs scored this season. Starrs Mills shortstop Lindsay Walker was named to the the AAAAA second team. She was the teams offensive player of the year with a .372 batting average, 48 hits, 26 RBI, 30 runs scored and six stolen bases. She was an honorable mention for the all state team last year. Starrs Mills catcher Rebecca Aszman was given an honorable mention to the all state team. She played in 14 games this season before going down with a season ending injury. In those games she had a .359 batting average, 14 hits and 12 RBI. Our Lady of Mercys Robyn Keuler was given an honorable mention to the A all state team. She played catcher, shortstop and second base for the Lady Bobcats and had a .422 batting average, 35 hits, 15 RBI and 24 runs scored. Local members of the 4-AAAAA region team were: Ashley Holcombe, catcher, Fayette County, first team; Rebecca Aszman, catcher, Starrs Mill, first team; Amanda Howett, pitcher, first base, Starrs Mill, first team; Lindsay Walker, shortstop, Starrs Mill, first team; Lynsey Tedford, third base, Starrs Mill, honorable mention and Rachel Watson, outfielder, Starrs Mill, honorable mention. Local members of the 4-AAAA region team were: Ashleigh Ward, third base, Sandy Creek, first team; Danielle Dickson, pitcher, Whitewater, first team; Tess Echols, shortstop, Whitewater, first team; Lauren Moyer, first base, Whitewater, first team. Local members of the 5-A region team were: Ashley Brown, outfielder, Landmark Christian, first team; Ashley Chastain, pitcher, Landmark Christian, first team; Marina Fleming, shortstop, Our Lady of Mercy, first team; Robyn Keuler, catcher, second base and shortstop, Our Lady of Mercy, first team; Lydia Blackshear, outfielder, Our Lady of Mercy, honorable mention; JoAnne Lonzanida, catcher, Our Lady of Mercy, honorable mention and Brittani Scott, first base, Our Lady of Mercy, honorable mention.
