A small amount of safety relief is coming soon to one of the countys newest traffic flashpoints.
The Coweta County Commission Tuesday night approved creating a four-way stop at the intersection of Poplar Road and the Newnan Crossing Bypass road. Since the bypass has opened, the intersection has become the scene of numerous wrecks.
County engineer Wayne Kennedy had originally opposed making the intersection a four-way stop, but said something had to be done because of the number of wrecks.
The county is going to try and get a stoplight at the intersection, but in the interim, the four way stop seems to be the best solution, Kennedy added.
But Commissioner Leigh Schlumper said she would not hold her breath waiting for a traffic light.
Ive been waiting for one at Hwy. 34 and Sullivan for years, she said.
Schlumper also asked the county to possibly light the bypass intersection to improve drivers sightlines.
In other traffic news, the county approved studies for Raymond Hill and Doc Fisher Road, Sullivan and Lower Fayetteville Road Lora Smith Road and Lower Fayetteville, Gordon Road and Ga. Highway 54 and Mary Freeman and Lower Fayetteville for intersection improvements.
