Sandy Creek splits with FayetteBy MICHAEL BOYLAN Friday night was a special night for the Sandy Creek varsity girls basketball team. They produced a 70-30 win over Chapel Hill, giving coach Jim Waller the 400th win of his career. Alyssa Ruff led the team in scoring with 18 points, while Lindsay Paschal added 12 points and 14 rebounds and Tracy Paschal scored 11 points and had six steals. Courtney Lowery had six assists in the game and Mary Fields had five steals. It was a special win, especially since the kids played so hard said Waller. Waller was also pleased that a lot of players got playing time in the game against Chapel Hill. Sandy Creeks Lady Patriots bounced back from a 9-0 deficit in the first quarter and a 17-13 deficit at the half on Saturday to capture their eighth straight win, a 40-33 win over Fayette County. In that game Fields pumped up her teammates and led them with 23 points, 15 of which came in the third quarter, and 10 rebounds. That may have been a turning point for us, said Waller. Until that game, we hadnt had one person step up and be a leader. The Sandy Creek boys picked up a 76-68 win over Chapel Hill on Friday night with Aaron Carruthers netting 21 points and Charles Belton adding 15 points. The Patriots then lost a close game with Fayette County on Saturday, 79-75, dropping their overall record to 5-3. It was the third straight win for the Fayette boys, who defeated Newnan 57-53 the night before. It was the fourth straight loss for the Lady Tigers, who lost to Newnan 51-23 the night before. In other local games over the weekend, Starrs Mill swept McIntosh on Saturday night. The Lady Panthers (3-3) won 45-25 with Angela Garza scoring 10 points, Shannon Dougherty and Kirstin Massmann each adding seven and Katreesa Rollins adding six points. The boys won 55-22, grabbing their second win of the season. Whitewaters boys (4-3) defeated Our Lady of Mercy, 37-34 last Friday, while the girls lost 56-14. Both teams lost to Alexander on Saturday. The girls (3-4) fell 60-29 and the boys lost 80-49. Our Lady of Mercy swept Excel Christian on Saturday. The boys won 66-45 and the girls won 49-13.
