St. Marys plans several Masses for ChristmasSt. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sharpsburg has announced plans for Christmas Masses, all scheduled to be held in the cafeteria of East Coweta High School. Two Masses will be celebrated on Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24. A childrens Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m., featuring the childrens choir, coordinated by Mrs. Traci Martin. A second Mass will be celebrated at 9 p.m. Christmas music will be presented prior to the Mass by the Parish Choir, directed by the parishs music director, Paul Bauer. On Christmas morning, Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Also on Christmas evening, a 5 p.m. Vigil Mass for Sunday, Dec. 26 will be celebrated. On Sunday morning, Dec. 26, the normal Sunday Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. This year, Catholics will not be obligated to attend Mass on New Years Day, per the Archdiocese of Atlanta. On the evening of Jan. 1, a Vigil Mass for Sunday, Jan. 2 will be held at 5 p.m. and the Sunday liturgy will be at the normal 10 a.m. schedule. St. Mary Magdalene began as an offshoot of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree city. It was elevated to the status of a full parish of the Archdiocese of Atlanta last fall. Father Daniel J. Fleming serves as the first pastor. St. Marys is on Lower Fayetteville Road, adjacent to Cokes Chapel UMC, near the intersection of Lower Fayetteville and Ga. Hwy. 154. (McCollum-Sharpsburg Road). |
