Deadline approaching for seniors prescription programLow-income seniors in the Atlanta region may qualify for a free Medicare discount prescription card and a $600 credit toward the purchase of medications. Those who act before Dec. 31 may be receive an additional $600 credit, for a total of $1,200. Seniors meeting the following eligibility requirements qualify for the credit: Have yearly income of less than $12,569 for an individual and no more than $16,862 for a married couple. Are not on Medicaid. Have no other prescription drug coverage. The Atlanta Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging and GeorgiaCares can help qualified seniors sign up for the Medicare-approved drug discount card that best meets their individual needs and receive a $1,200 credit toward the purchase of prescription drugs between now and the end of 2005. GeorgiaCares counselors and volunteers will be available at the Morehouse School of Medicine Saturday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. to help seniors maximize their savings and take full advantage of the credit before the Dec. 31 deadline. Seniors must bring either their medications or a typed list of their prescriptions to sign up for the drug card. Medicare beneficiaries who cannot attend the event can still apply for the discount card by calling GeorgiaCares at (800) 669-8387. Morehouse School of Medicine is at 720 Westview Drive in Atlanta. |
