The Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA) presents an original holiday production for children, Colors of Love, at the 14th Street Playhouse. Meet Mama Jones and her four kids as they turn a potentially disastrous Christmas Eve into a fun-filled Holiday. Packed with original song and dance, Colors of Love is sure to lighten the holiday spirit and leave you singing. Colors of Love will be performed December 14-19 at 14th Street Playhouse.
Once again bringing their unique approach to solving the challenges of life, YEA has created an all-new show that teaches children about the wonderful healing power of love, particularly during the holidays. "We are all about love," said artistic director Freddie Hendricks. What better time to talk to children about the power of love and happiness, than the holiday season. I am thrilled that the first production from our Intern Company will focus on Love and reach the youngest of children.
After mom comes home with a broken tree and the ornaments are found destroyed in the scary basement, the children of the Jones family are not looking forward to the comments from the snotty neighbor girl down the street. Through some fun-filled and hilarious moments, touching songs and campy dance, the children use their creativity to decorate a beautiful and spectacular tree. In the process, the children learn the true meaning of Christmas and the importance of family. Filled with song, dance and the joy of the Holidays, Colors of Love is sure to communicate the spirit of the season to children and adults of all ages.

Colors of Love is an original holiday story featuring older members of the Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta who make up the YEA Intern Company. Founded more than 13 years ago, YEA has trained hundreds of youth to become performing artists and musicians. With so few performance opportunities available to young black actors in Atlanta, YEA saw the need to create a new avenue for them to continue their artistic growth. Ultimately, the Intern Company was developed. These very talented seasoned performers have the opportunity to produce and create their own work with the support of the artistic and administrative leadership of YEA. They also perform with the rest of the youth ensemble and serve as mentors to our newer members. The members of the Intern Company have been performing with professional theatres in Atlanta and across the US and the world.
The Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA) empowers youth by giving them a voice, through the performing arts, to help them address issues that affect their lives and to enable them to become catalysts for positive change in their communities. YEA is the South's premiere youth theatre company, providing a cultural and creative outlet for the young people of our city. The company is now comprised of more than seventy young people ranging from ages seven to twenty-four. Through many work sessions and rehearsals, the members of this dedicated ensemble are inspired to explore and express their feelings and concerns about the world within them and around them. Not only does YEA educate through addressing social and political concerns, they entertain audiences with their magnificent voices, heartfelt dialogue and inspired choreography. YEA has performed in festivals on three continents, has members in television, film, music and on Broadway, and boasts Grammy and Emmy winners among its alum.
