Tina Johnson is used to life in the fast lane but she is slowing down just enough to help get the word out about the CDF Performing Companys annual Fayette Christmas Spectacular, From Broadway to Fayette Square, a show that benefits both the Joseph Sams School and Hope House.
Johnson, a Senoia resident and Bandolero driver in Atlanta Motor Speedways Thursday Thunder series, volunteered to help at the first Fayette Christmas Spectacular last year. When she visited Hope House and saw where the proceeds of the event went and how they helped the children there, she wanted to get more involved. This year she is the Spectacular Project Committee Chair. Her goal, and the goal of all involved with the show, is to raise $20,000, which is double the amount the event raised last year.
There were empty seats at last years show and we dont want any empty seats this year, said Johnson.
Headlining the show will be The Fayette Showstoppers, the largest of Carlas three adult companies and holder of many regional first place awards. Some of the numbers that will be performed will include Parade of the Wooden Soldiers, Happy Holidays, and Marshmallow World. The Fayette Showgirls and Carlas Award Winning Performing Companies, presenting festive new numbers in the famous Rockette style of the Reindeer, Rag Dolls, Elves and those wonderful Little Christmas Packages. There are also a number of new vocalists performing and Santa will sing and dance and will also be available for pictures before the show with Johnson assisting Santa as an honorary elf.
Johnson has been telling everyone, from fans to her fellow drivers, about the upcoming show. Shes hoping to be able to expose racing fans not used to the theater to an exciting, up tempo show and hoping to get fans of theater interested in racing. Johnson holds Georiga first place and National third place titles. She lost the Thursday Thunder title this summer by one point to Fayettevilles Trey Maughan, a friend she races all over the Southeast.
While she is looking forward to racing in several races over the winter, Johnson is focused on making this years spectacular a resounding success. The proceeds will once again be divided between the Joseph Sams School and Hope House. The Joseph Sams School is dedicated to the education and life skills development of children who are intellectually, physically or developmentally challenged. It is a private non-profit school that serves children ages 18 months-15 years old. Hope House provides respite services to the failies with medically fragile/special needs children from all over the state. Hope House is solely dependent upon the loving gifts of individuals, churces, businesses, civic groups, corporations and foundations in order to provide their care and services at no charge to the patients or their families.
From Broadway to Fayette Square will be presented at Sams Auditorium, Saturday, Dec. 18 at 2 and 5 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 for preferred seating and $10 general admission. Tickets are on sale at Carlas Dance Studio as well as at the Joseph Sams School and the Hope House. Phone 770-716-5902 for more information.
