Peachtree City woman in coma after Thursday accidentBy LEE WILLIAMS A 26-year-old Peachtree City woman was critically injured Thursday when she lost control of her vehicle and slammed head-on into another vehicle traveling south on Ga. Highway 74. Tiffany K. Haugli, of 818 Bedford Park, the driver of a 2001 Mitsubishi Ellipse was traveling north on Highway 74 near Gardner Park about 8:30 a.m. when she traveled off the road while attempting to negotiate a curve. Haugli overcorrected and struck Richard Howard Jr., 31, of 7563 Cove Road, Woodbury, the driver of a 1984 Chevrolet C-10 pickup truck head-on, Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray said. Haugli received severe head and chest injuries in the crash. She was taken to the Atlanta Medical Center where she remains in the Intensive Care Unit, hospital officials said. Howards injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. The hospital where he was transported was unavailable. Murray indicated Hauglis condition was severe enough to warrant the use of a medical helicopter, but because of the weather conditions, the chopper could not land. Therefore, Haugli was driven to the hospital. Lucretia Bolle, Hauglis maternal grandmother of Menomonie, Wis., is praying her granddaughter makes a full recovery. Hauglis parents flew to Georgia to be by her bedside. Bolle regreted she could not make the trip. Haugli, a Purdue University graduate, is an engineer for Panasonic in Peachtree City. She is an avid runner, who competed in Womens Open Divisions Peachtree Road Race 10K on July 4. She completed the race in 56 minutes and 39 seconds. She also donated her time volunteering with the Habitat for Humanity in Indiana. Weve been praying a lot for her. She is in a coma, Bolle said. She was a sweet girl. I just pray that shes makes it. |
