Last Friday, the Fayette County boys and girls traveled to Mundys Mill High School and lost in the waning seconds of their respective games. The boys game went to overtime before Mundys Mill captured the win. On Tuesday night, Mundys Mills boys and girls traveled to Starrs Mill and eked out victories at the last possible second once again.
The Starrs Mill Lady Panthers (2-3) played the Lady Tigers close and missed a shot at the buzzer. The ball rattled around the basket before falling out and leaving Starrs Mill behind 47-44. Katreesa Rollins had a great game with 11 points and six blocks. The boys (1-6) lost their second close game in a row by falling to Mundys Mill 60-59. The Tigers scored the winning basket with 6.2 seconds remaining. The two teams had battled back and forth all night with Starrs Mill having an eight point lead at one point and Mundys Mill being up by five points at another point.
The kids are working extremely hard and I think the last two games show that we are not far away, said Coach Dave Edinger. Its going to happen but we are winning in bigger areas than what the scoreboard says.
Mark Harris had his best game of the season for the Panthers with 19 points and seven rebounds. Nick plotner added 12 points and Vinnie LeDonne netted nine points.
The Panthers will host the McIntosh Chiefs Saturday. The girls will face off at 6 p.m. and the boys will play 15 minutes after the girls game ends. McIntosh is coming off losses to Douglas County and will take on Lithia Springs on the road tonight.
