Adopt-A-Park in Peachtree City keeps growingThe Peachtree City Recreation Departments Adopt-A-Park Program keeps on growing every year since it began in April 2000. Currently, there are 39 residents, groups or organizations that have adopted a total of 24 parks and tot lots. Every year we gain a group or two to replace the few participants that have moved away from the area and could not continue the service, said Adopt-A-Park representative Joyce Williams. I especially think it is terrific when some of our adoptees have gone off to college and their younger brothers or sisters have stepped in and taken their place in the program. The Recreation Department commends the support of these volunteers for their continuing service: Robert Allen, South 74-Soccer. A Helpful Citizen, Braelinn Rec. Complex. BellyWashers Kids, Pebblepocket Park. Boy Scout Troop 201 (Matt Chambers), Clover Reach Park. Boy Scout Troop 279, Huddleston Pond. Johnathan Callen, South 74-Soccer. Kiwanis Club of PTC, Drake Field. Kiwanis (Golden K), Riley Field. Lake Kedron Community Assoc., Suttons Cove Tot Lot. Lossner Family, Rubicon Tot Lot. Debbie Martin, Shakerag Knoll. More than one individual, group or organization can adopt a park. Some parks have more than one adoptee and each particular group may choose to do a cleanup at the beginning, middle, or end of the month providing continual service. Participants in the program agree to pick up litter and or debris once a month. Participants are recognized for their efforts by an Adopt-A-Park sign at the parks with the names of the individual, organization, or business. The Recreation Department has several areas not yet adopted (Big Pine Park, Kedron Boat Docks) and several areas in larger parks that need more participants (South 74 Soccer/Baseball Complex, Jim Meade Fields.) For more information on joining the Adopt-A-Park program, please call the Recreation Administration Office Monday-Friday from 8 am-4:30 p.m. at 770-631-2542. |
