Fulton County Commissioners are now preparing for the next step in their legal quest to stop the transport of trash to South Fultons Welcome All Transfer Station until the City of Atlanta complies with Georgia law. This is not the end, said District 7 Commissioner William Bill Edwards after Fulton Superior Court Judge Stephanie Manis rejected the countys request for a temporary restraining order against the City of Atlanta. Commissioner Edwards and District 5 Commissioner Emma I. Darnell attended the hearing. The order would have stopped Atlanta from transporting trash to the Welcome All Transfer Station following the closing of the Live Oak Landfill in Dekalb County until the city followed the law and obtained permission for the transaction from Fulton County. Transport of the trash to Welcome All began December 1. Fulton County attorneys filed the lawsuit against Atlanta on the grounds that the city failed to follow the law, which stresses intergovernmental cooperation, and did not ask the county for permission to send the trash to South Fulton. The court date for the next hearing has not been scheduled by Superior Court Chief Judge Doris Downs. Judge Downs will hear the remaining issues in the case and issue a final ruling. |
