PTC wants wider cart pathsNew cart paths built in Peachtree City will have a little more wiggle room for the wide variety of users. Most of the system consists of eight-foot wide paths, which can make things a bit hairy at times when joggers, dog-walkers, bike riders and cart path drivers converge. Widening the paths to 10 feet creates more room for everybody, said City Planner David Rast, who had originally recommended moving to nine feet wide paths. A national group of highway officials recommends two-directional shared use paths be eight feet wide with a two-foot shoulder on either side of the path. The new rule, approved by city council Thursday night, will apply to new development and will be adopted by the city as it continually replaces older and damaged sections of the cart path system.
