Residents who want to build a house in Senoia in 2005 may be confronted with sticker shock.
The Senoia City Council gave initial approval Monday night to a series of capital recovery fees for connecting to the citys water and sewer systems.
The final approval for the fee structure is expected at the citys Dec. 20 meeting.
If the charges get final approval, residents would pay a $1,019 water capital recovery fee, along with a $1,801sewer connection fee. Tap fees would be $750 for water and $1,500 for sewer, so connection costs would top $5,000 for a typical house.
City attorney Drew Whalen made it clear that residents who use the 90-day window to hook up to the citys sewer system would not incur any of the charges.
As the city gets ready to hook up residents to the system, a letter is sent to each home giving them a date to hook up to the system. If the resident doesnt connect by the prescribed date, he would have to pay the charges.
Many of the costs are born by developers who build new subdivision, but if a resident wants to build a home, he would have to pay the connection and tap costs.
