Nutcracker season winding down

Ballet enthusiasts will have two chances this weekend to see the holiday tradition of The Nutcracker.

Tickets are now available for The Nutcracker Ballet presented by the Peachtree City Civic Ballet Company. Performances are scheduled for December 11 at 7 p.m. and December 12 at 2 p.m. in the Auditorium of Our Lady of Mercy High School. The holiday classic features dancers from Faith and Cowed counties, lavish scenery, and costumes. according to director Kathleen Sender, support from the entire business community in funding this production allows us to price tickets affordably for families. In addition, there is a group rate available for scout troops and church groups. Tickets may be purchased at Peachier City School of Dance or reserve by phone at 770-632-1544.

Georgia Youth Ballet’s ninth annual production of The Nutcracker will give new meaning to the phrase “under foot.” An impressively large and picturesque lady, Mother Ginger, sporting an equally impressive sized dress, will wander onstage in search of her brood, which appear from underneath her skirts to greet the crowd.

The dozen Pollichenelles who come out from their Mother’s garments are among the more than 100 young men and women, ages 6 through 24, from eight metro counties who will entertain audiences this december at Coweta County’s new Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts in Newnan.

“It’s always a stretch to cast Mother Ginger, no pun intended,” said GYB artistic director Magdelena Maury. “This year we’re using a marine and a police officer!”

GYB’s Nutcracker will be performed on December 11 at the Coweta County Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts in Newnan, and GYB’s will be the premier Nutcracker performed at this new centre. Nutcracker tickets are on sale at four locations: The Studio at 220 Robinson Drive in Fayetteville, Center Stage Dance Wear on North Glynn Street in Fayetteville, Scott’s Bookstore in downtown Newnan, and at the Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts on Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan.
