Patriots over Panthers, Whitewater splits with Eagles Landing ChristianBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots remained undefeated by defeating the Starrs Mill Lady Panthers, 41-27 on Saturday night. The Sandy Creek boys team got back to their winning ways by handing the Panthers a 38-34 loss. The Lady Patriots built a sizable lead and held on for the win. Tracy Paschal scored 13 points while Starrs Mill saw good play from Angela Garza and Kristin Massmann. The Starrs Mill boys played tenacious defense and kept the Patriots in check for much of Saturday nights games. Sandy Creeks Charles Belton scored 10 points while Daniel Hendricks added nine points. Starrs Mill was led by Mark Harris 13 points while Todd Oakley added 10 points. Whitewaters Lady Wildcats improved to 3-2 with a 47-40 win over Eagles Landing Christian Academy. Whitewater trailed early but built a 13 point lead at the half. The team is working hard and is starting to play with confidence, said Coach Dave Pina. Theyre realizing that they can play with anybody. Courtney Walker had a breakout game for Whitewater with 16 points, while Marissa Williams and Brentley Collins both played well. The boys fell to Eagles Landing Christian Academy, 44-26. Their record through five games is also 3-2. We played real good defense but just could never get in a rhythm offensively, said Coach Brent Jackson. Though the Wildcats trailed early they cut the lead to four points with five minutes remaining. Eagles Landing Christian was able to put up more points and control the remainder of the game. J.T. Martin led the Wildcats with six points, while freshman Chris Asbury socred five points in the fourth quarter and provided some defensive intensity in the second half. Ricky Sinkfield added eight rebounds. Whitewater will host Our Lady of Mercy on Friday night with the girls playing at 7 p.m. and the boys playing 15 minutes after the girls game. In other games over the weekend, Douglas Countys boys and girls defeated McIntosh. The Lady Chiefs lost 63-39, while the boys lost 104-42. Starrs Mills girls defeated East Coweta 53-36, while the Starrs Mill boys fell 62-51. Fayette Countys boys and girls both lost to Mundys Mill on Friday. The Lady Tigers lost in the final seconds 45-44 while the boys lost in overtime 69-66.
