LaFayette Chorale to performThe Lafayette Chorale, under the direction of Elizabeth Biggs, will present A Traditional Service of Lessons and Carols Sunday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, LaGrange. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and are available from LSPA Center, 210 Bull St., Hill Street House and Serendipity Gifts. Information may be obtained by calling LSPA at 06-882-9909. The concert is based on the original 1918 service of Lessons and Carols first performed in the Chapel of Kings College in Cambridge, England. Developed by an English army chaplain, this traditional order of worship grew out of a need for alternative forms of service within the Church of England at the turn of the century. The performance incorporates the reading of scriptural lessons followed by a musical offering performed by the Chorale or soloists, and often infused throughout with congregational singing. It is one of the few concert agendas where the audience itself plays a pivotal role in the overall musical experience. Rick McKnight, organist/choirmaster at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Columbus, will be the featured soloist. The Lafayette Chorale is the only civic choral organization of its kind in the West Georgia area. Formed 25 years ago by a group of choral enthusiasts, it originally was known as the Lafayette Singers. Today it continues to offer excellence in choral music to anyone who wishes to participate. |
