St. Gabriels adds ONeillLaura ONeill has joined the music department of The Catholic Church of St. Gabriel in Fayetteville as director of the childrens choir. The group, known as the Angel Choir, is the youngest of three choirs at the church and is comprised of school-age singers. The churchs music director is Andy Hoeckele. ONeill grew up in Sarasota, Fla., where she sang at an Episcopal church, both as a soloist and a choir member. After a brief teaching career in Houston, Texas, she sang with the Nashville Symphony Chorus for two years prior to moving to the Atlanta area. In Atlanta, ONeill was a cantor and choir member at the Cathedral of Christ the King for two years, and currently is cantor at Our Lady of Assumption, a duty which will continue in addition to her duties at St. Gabriel. She recently was asked to be a soloist for the Handels Messiah sing-along, an annual event at First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City. I am very excited to be conducting the youth choir at the Catholic Church of St. Gabriel, ONeill said. This is a talented group of young singers. They are willing to work hard and are eager to share their abilities. The kids and adults have both made me feel very welcome. I know that together we can make a joyful noise unto the Lord. The Angel Choir sang for the first time under ONeills direction on Nov. 21 and will sing again at the 5 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve. St. Gabriels is at 152 Antioch Rd., just south of the intersection of Antioch and Ga. Hwy. 92 South. |
