Holiday Helpers on the job in FayetteBy CAROLYN CARYccary@TheCitizenNews.com When the Fayette County Department of Family and Childrens Services announced it would not be in charge of the toy drive for county children this year, a volunteer group was organized. The Fayette County Holiday Helpers are made up of 12 interested volunteers.
There is a large container at each fire station in the county for the deposit of new toys. It asks that all toys be donated by Wednesday, Dec. 15. The containers are for toys only. All other types of donations can be taken to its warehouse headquarters at 300 Industrial Way, Fayetteville. Those who wish to make a cash donation can do so by sending it to Holiday helpers, P.O. Box 440, Fayetteville, GA 30214. All donations are tax deductible, and receipts will be provided upon request. Another program the organization is overseeing is PeachCare For Kids. It is a comprehensive health care program for uninsured children living in Georgia whose parents are below a specific income level. They usually do not receive any type of welfare but are not employed where insurance is offered and they do not earn enough to purchase insurance. The need is identified through the school they attend. Health benefits include primary services, preventive services, specialists, dental care, vision care, hospitalization, emergency room services, prescription medications, and mental health care. The cost per year is $200 per child, and you can specify that your cash donation go to this program. If you wish to sponsor a child for the After School Program, the cost is $575 a year, or $30 per child per week. The volunteer office is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and can be reached at 770-716-0580. |
