PTC Target architecture gets tentative OKIf company approves window for side, 2 awnings for frontBy JOHN MUNFORD After cooler heads prevailed, Faison Enterprises won a conditional approval of its architectural plan for the exterior of the planned Target store that will be built at the Kedron Village retail center in Peachtree City. But at the offset of Thursday nights meeting, the plans chances appeared rocky at best. All over a window and a couple of awnings that some on council felt were needed on a storefront with architectural features such as three display windows on the front and a pergalo. I think you owe us a window, said councilman Murray Weed, speaking to Faison representative Mike Cohn, as he began showing the proposed elevations. Weed was referring to the right side of the Target store, which had just one display window. He also indicated that council had specifically asked for that at its last meeting with Faison, quoting from the transcript of councils last discussion with Faison about the architecture. Cohn also quoted from the transcript, saying it was Faisons position that there would be no more changes to the plan. Weed said if that was the companys position, one option would be to drag the issue back into court. Faison, the city and the Kedron Hills Homeowners Association are working under a court settlement that requires the city to approve the plans or appear again before Superior Court Judge Christopher C. Edwards to settle the matter. Council went into closed session to discuss the impasse, and after reconvening into open session, a deal was brokered with Faison. Council unanimously voted to conditionally approve the elevations if Target agrees to add an additional display window to the right side elevation, and if awnings are added to two of the three windows to the left of the front store entrance. If not, the elevations will be reconsidered by the council at a later date. Cohn, who showed visible signs of frustration during the initial heated exchange with council, said the outcome wasnt what Faison wanted, but he preferred to keep the matter out of court. |
