Hospital expansion moving forwardBy LEE WILLIAMS Piedmont Fayette Hospital officials are moving forward with their plan to build a 100,000-square-foot medical office building now that they have secured permission from the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission. The Commission approved the hospitals latest development plans during a regular-scheduled meeting Nov. 23, P&Z Director Jahnee Prince said. Ryan Duffy, spokeswoman for the hospital, said hospital officials are pleased. We are looking forward to it, Duffy said from her office Thursday. The property, dubbed the Meadows & Ohly Medical Office building, will be used to provide office space for doctors affiliated with the hospital. The property in question is located behind the Medical Arts Building that fronts on Ga. Highway 54 West and is adjacent to the hospital. The property, located at 1255 Ga. Highway 54 West, is part of the 50.55-acre hospital property and is zoned Medical Office (MO). Duffy said the project is just one phase of the hospitals $41 million long-range expansion project. That long-range expansion plan includes doubling the size of the 100-bed facility that officially changed its name Nov. 15. The hospital was previously called Fayette Community Hospital. Construction on at least one arm of the project already is underway, Duffy indicated. The clinical expansion will not be complete until the Summer of 2006, Duffy said. But, the third floor of the west Wing, we are hoping to open in January. Piedmont Fayette Hospital is an acute care community hospital, which offers 24-hour emergency services, medical and surgical services and diagnostic and rehabilitation services. The hospital, a private, not-for-profit organization and a subsidiary of Piedmont Healthcare, has over 800 employees and a medical staff of nearly 350 physicians. |
