The big evergreen in front of the depot offices of James and Collins in Fairburn came of age this year when it debuted at this years Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. Tori and Justin Rossi, daughter and son of Tony and Jennifer Rossi threw the switch to illuminate the tree that was planted by the Camilla Club in 1992.
More than 100 residents turned out Monday night in chilly conditions to see the city of Fairburn usher in the holiday season. The crowd sang holiday songs and drank hot chocolate as Mayor Betty Hannah welcomed the crowd.
Fairburn Lt. Ed Promy donned the familiar red and white Santa suit as he has done for the last 15 years to hear the Christmas wishes of Fairburns children after the lighting ceremony commenced. When Santa arrived on a Fulton County firetruck, the young tykes in the crowd ran to greet the jolly old elf.
Another of Fairburns holiday traditions starts this weekend as Southside Theatre Guilds holiday show starts this weekend. A Christmas Story is this years show. For more information on the show, see Holiday Happenings, page B1.
