Advent season begins at Christ the King CEC

Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg opened the season of Advent last Sunday with the traditional lighting of the first candle of the Advent wreath.

Advent, which begins four Sundays prior to Christmas Day, is celebrated throughout the world in Christian churches and marks a period of “joyful preparation.” The liturgical color for Advent is either purple or blue, indicating repentance and royalty.

At Christ the King, the season of Advent will be observed with songs of the season, the reading of scriptures, prayers and messages brought by the church’s pastor, Father David Epps.

The season will end with a Community Communion Service at 6 and 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
