A 16-year-old male was charged with shoplifting after he allegedly hid an Eminem CD, valued at $15, on his person and attempted to leave Best Buy, 138 Pavilion Parkway, Suite B, without paying for it. Peachtree City Police Dept. Christopher Tad Symons, 39, of 1333 Hyacinth Lane, Peachtree City, was arrested on charges of DUI, reckless driving, striking a fixed object, open container violation and failure to maintain lane, following a Nov. 11 incident on Ga. Highway 74 off Senoia Road. Symons was traveling south on 74 when he drifted off the road and struck a stop sign. Symons continued to drive .7 miles with the sign embedded into the windshield and hood of his silver 2004 Ford Explorer. Symons vehicle came to a stop after striking an embankment, police said. Gun purchase: Joseph John Bermell, 33, of Old Atlanta Road, Hampton, was arrested for a probation violation following an incident at Wal-Mart, 125 Pavilion Parkway, Fayetteville. Officials alleged Bermell attempted to buy a weapon at the superstore. A criminal check revealed Bermell was wanted. He was arrested when he returned to purchase the gun. Fayetteville Police Dept. Burglary: Nancy Barlett of Barlett Services, 265 Industrial Way, Fayetteville, reported Nov. 18, that someone stole a gray file box and a black glass jar, all valued at $30, from the business. Burglary: Pamela Weeks, 39, of Weeks Automotive, 160 Industrial Way, Fayetteville, reported Nov. 19, that someone broke into the business. Police reported $20 cash, four receipts, an eyeglass case, a tinfoil boomerang and two blue money bags, all valued at $26, were stolen. Vandalism: Latoria Scott, 22, an employee of Rainbow Apparel, 110 Pavilion Parkway, reported Nov. 23, that someone damaged the dressing room area. Criminal trespassing: Robert Straub, of Welton Way, Peachtree City, reported 10:31 p.m. Nov. 27, that someone threw two eggs and styrofoam container of barbecue sauce at his vehicle. Animal beef: PTC police officer spotted Erin Todzia, 26, of Cobblestone Creek, Peachtree City, following a stray pit bull in her vehicle while traveling down Crosstown Drive. The officer stopped Todzia and told her nothing could be done for the dog. The officer added county Animal Control officials would only respond if the dog was hurt. The officer told Todzia to return home so she did not cause an accident. Todzia complied. Storm damage: Latoshi Latham of Peachtree Station Circle, Peachtree City, reported 10:49 a.m. Nov. 24, that a tree fell and crushed the rooftop on her white Mazda during the heavy storm. Storm damage: Sandra Flato of Village Drive, Peachtree City, reported 11:03 a.m. Nov. 24, that a tree fell and struck the rear of her house during the storm causing extensive damage. Storm damage: Lilia Ricra of Cedar Drive, Peachtree City, reported 11:36 a.m. Nov. 24 that a tree split and landed on her 2000 Daewoo Leganza. Storm damage: Michael Stanfield of Adams Fall, Peachtree City, reported 11:50 a.m. Nov. 24, that three large trees fell on the rear corner of his house during the storm, causing extensive damage. Storm damage: Jan Clark of Avalon Drive, Fayetteville, reported Nov. 24, that a tree branch fell through the windshield of her white Mercury Sable LS, during the storm. Storm damage: Robert Hunley of Marlborough Drive, Jonesboro, reported 11:05 a.m. Nov. 24, that a tree fell against two stacks of concrete blocks causing them to topple at 409 Dividend Drive, Peachtree City. Attempted burglary: Vivian Slaton of Senoia Road, Tyrone, reported 7 p.m. Nov. 26, that she came home and found two burglars lurking about in her home. One hid behind the living room door and the other hid in the den next to the television. The thieves fled before officers arrived. Fire alarm: At 3:55 p.m. Nov. 27, Fayetteville firefighters responded to a fire alarm at a business at 1294 Ga. Highway 54 West. Gas leak: At 6:27 p.m. Nov. 27, Fayetteville firefighters responded to a gas leak at 150 Pavilion Parkway. Fayette Co. Fire and Emergency Services Storm response: Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services responded to 58 emergency calls between 10:30 a.m. to midnight Nov. 24, after gusty winds and rain from a storm blew in. The bulk of the calls came in from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Numerous roads were impassable and at least 12 homes sustained significant damage due to falling trees. No one was hurt during the storm. Areas in south Fayette County between Starrs Mill and south of Fayetteville to Woolsey were the worst hit, fire officials said. |
