Georgia River Network seeks nominations for annual awardsGeorgia River Network has announced a call for nominations for the first annual Georgia River Network River Celebration Awards. The award program was designed to celebrate the successes and dedicated efforts of river activists in Georgia. Award recipients will be honored during a ceremony at the 2005 Georgia River Network Conference in Milledgeville Feb. 19, 2005. Honorees will receive a scholarship to attend the conference, a plaque of commendation, acknowledgement on Georgia River Networks web page and newsletter, and a one-year complimentary membership. Award categories include River Conservationist of the Year, Watershed Group of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. Individuals and organizations who successfully work to improve and protect Georgias rivers are eligible. Nominees are not required to be members of Georgia River Network. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 3. Nomination materials can be found at www.garivers.org or by calling 706-549-4508. April Ingle, Executive Director of Georgia River Network, encourages citizens to nominate their local river heroes. This is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of special people and groups in the community working to protect Georgias rivers. Georgia River Network is the only statewide nonprofit environmental organization solely dedicated to the conservation of Georgias waters. The organization helps people organize to protect and restore rivers and watersheds by building local watershed group capacity and providing statewide policy analysis.
