J.C. Booth Middle receives state science recognitionThe words National Science Olympiad and J. C. Booth Middle School seem to go hand in hand. Thats because for 11 years in a row, the Peachtree City school has represented Georgia at the competition, winning the national first place title eight times under the direction of head coach Mary Wilde. In honor of Booths achievements at the competition, the Georgia Department of Education presented Wilde with a certificate of excellence during Novembers State Board of Education meeting. State School Superintendent Kathy Cox made the presentation. The students, coaches and sponsors of our Science Olympiad team deserve this state-level recognition for their outstanding performance over the past eight years said Booth Principal Ted Lombard. Since National Science Olympiad is an extracurricular activity, coaches and students put in numerous hours before and after school preparing for the competition. Wilde opens her home to team members each year, providing them space and equipment to practice for the various events of the Olympiad. The Science Olympiad tests students knowledge in different areas of science including physics, chemistry and geology. Competition events require students to use scientific principals, including problem solving skills and technology, to do everything from constructing a bridge to reconstructing a crime scene. |
