Buses start rollingBy JOHN THOMPSON
Commuters looking for relief should head to the parking lot of the Forum at Newnan Crossing Monday to catch the commuter bus into Atlanta. The Xpress bus is the latest effort by the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority to reduce congestion in the Atlanta region. in 2003, Coweta County signed an agreement with GRTA to provide commuter buses to the county in exchange for $15 million in transportation improvements. Travelers pay $5 for the round-trip ride into Atlanta. The first bus leaves the Newnan Park and Ride lot at 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Buses also leave the lot at 6 a.m., 6:30 a.m., 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. The route leaves Newnan and makes major stops at the five Points MARTA station in downtown Atlanta and at McGill and West Peachtree in front of the Summit Building in Midtown. The bus service began operation in June with routes to downtown Atlanta from Hampton, Jonesboro and Conyers. The system will grow toÊ 27 Xpress routes serving the region in the next few years. The Newnan Park and ride lot is located off Bullsboro Drive on the Newnan Crossing Bypass. For more information, visit xpressga.com. |
