Fayetteville Main Streets 12th Annual Old Fashioned Christmas Tree Lighting
The square in Fayetteville will soon be transformed into a Christmas village, and Main Street organizers are planning a grand celebration this year for their annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The event is December 4 beginning at 6 p.m. at Heritage Park in Stonewall Village.
Its sure to be a Dickens of a Christmas Tree Lighting as Heritage Christian Church will set up a smaller version of their Dickens Village around the gazebo. Costumed characters, minstrels, and performers will captivate you with singing, stories, juggling and more around the gazebo as the festivities continue on the main stage at the fountain area.
Families can participate in many of the activities and even make a Christmas ornament to take home with them. The magic will continue with an old-fashioned Santa set up in the Gazebo for visits from the children. Hot cocoa and Georgia chestnuts will also be available for purchase.
Several of the Dickens characters will take part in leading the program for the evening, with the official welcome delivered by Mayor Ken Steele, and Robert Sprayberry, chairman of the Main Street Board of Directors, assisting in the introduction of the special guest who will be lighting the tree.
Entertainment for the event will include a selection of Christmas favorites sung by the Fayette Youth Chorale directed by Millie Turek, a special duet performance by Johnny and Alice Prettyman, as well as a brief dramatic presentation by the Dickens Characters. Guest soloist Stephen Walker will round out the evening by singing O Holy Night as a prelude to the actual Christmas Tree Lighting. At approximately 7 p.m. the huge tree will magically light up, with the help of our honored guest Joshua Gordon, a student of The Joseph Sams School .
Immediately following the lighting of the tree, the crowd will be entertained by this years Fayette Idol finalists, winner Taylor Martinez along with finalists Denise Kelly, Devon Stillions and Diana and Danielle Rupenthal.
Attendees may also choose to continue visiting the Dickens Village or take a free horse-drawn carriage ride with Santa around the complex, compliments of Fayetteville Main Street.
