Good play as college schedule winds downIn college football last week, a number of graduates from Fayette County schools performed well. Drew Cofty (Starrs Mill) had 24 yards rushing and 24 yards receiving in McKendree Colleges 21-20 playoff loss to MidAmerica Nazarene. Matt Fuhrman (Starrs Mill) of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was named to the Liberty Leagues first team defense. Fuhrman was the team's leader in many statistical categories, and ranked second in the Liberty League with 15 tackles for loss and six sacks. Fuhrman also registered 78 tackles (47 solo), four quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and his first-career interception, at Union, Oct. 2. Jermaine Harris (Sandy Creek) had two solo tackles and an assist in South Carolinas 29-7 loss to Clemson. Reuben Houston (Starrs Mill) had four solo tackles and two pass breakups in Georgia Techs 30-10 loss to Virginia. Chris James (Starrs Mill) kicked five extra points in Western Kentuckys 35-14 win over Florida International. Calvin Johnson (Sandy Creek) had five catches for 108 yards in Georgia Techs 30-10 loss to Virginia. Will Judson (Sandy Creek) had four kickoff returns for 59 yards in Florida A&Ms 58-52 overtime loss to Bethune Cookman. Riley Swanson (Sandy Creek) had six tackles and two assists in Wake Forests 51-7 loss to Miami. All stats are pulled from the universitys Web sites on Monday morning.
