Good play as college schedule winds down

In college football last week, a number of graduates from Fayette County schools performed well.

• Drew Cofty (Starr’s Mill) had 24 yards rushing and 24 yards receiving in McKendree College’s 21-20 playoff loss to MidAmerica Nazarene.

• Matt Fuhrman (Starr’s Mill) of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was named to the Liberty League’s first team defense. Fuhrman was the team's leader in many statistical categories, and ranked second in the Liberty League with 15 tackles for loss and six sacks. Fuhrman also registered 78 tackles (47 solo), four quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and his first-career interception, at Union, Oct. 2.

• Jermaine Harris (Sandy Creek) had two solo tackles and an assist in South Carolina’s 29-7 loss to Clemson.

• Reuben Houston (Starr’s Mill) had four solo tackles and two pass breakups in Georgia Tech’s 30-10 loss to Virginia.

• Chris James (Starr’s Mill) kicked five extra points in Western Kentucky’s 35-14 win over Florida International.

• Calvin Johnson (Sandy Creek) had five catches for 108 yards in Georgia Tech’s 30-10 loss to Virginia.

• Will Judson (Sandy Creek) had four kickoff returns for 59 yards in Florida A&M’s 58-52 overtime loss to Bethune Cookman.

• Riley Swanson (Sandy Creek) had six tackles and two assists in Wake Forest’s 51-7 loss to Miami.
