Fast start to season for someBy MICHAEL BOYLAN
The high school basketball season has begun and the results are better for some than others. Sandy Creeks Lady Patriots are 3-0 after defeating Luella in the opener and garnering wins over North Gwinnett and Tucker in the North Gwinnett tournament. Sandy Creek beat Luella, 63-27 with Morganne Campbell scoring 18 points and Lindsey Paschal adding 14 points. The Lady Patriot defense played extremely well against North Gwinnett, as Mary Fields scored 15 points and Alyssa Ruff added 13 points. The defense played well in their game against Tucker as well, but the Patriots did not shoot very well or capitalize on turnovers. We were out of sync in the Tucker game, said Coach Jim Waller. But we played well enough on defense to get the win. Lindsey Paschal led the team in scoring with 19 points, while Fields chipped in 14 points. Sandy Creek played Peachtree Ridge Tuesday afternoon after the paper went to press. The Sandy Creek boys also opened the season with a win over Luella, 64-46, and followed it with a 79-73 win over Southwest Atlanta Christian in the Parkview tournament. The boys lost to Centennial 64-51 in the next game and then defeated Parkview 68-56 in the third place game. Aaron Carruthers led all scorers in all of the games.
