Making Mathematics Meaningful and Fun

Hapeville Elementary School focuses on offering the best learning experience for each child in a diverse student population.

Hapeville Elementary School has a new club, The Hapeville Elementary School Mathematics Team. Aligned with the school’s strategic plan of increasing student achievement in mathematics, the Math Team seeks to encourage students to excel in mathematics.

Currently, the Mathematics Team is made up of approximately 80 students in grades 2 – 5. The team stresses the practical uses of mathematics, and at the same time, it uses competitions and other hands-on applications, such as Quiz Bowl Challenges, interactive games, and field trips, to help facilitate this understanding.

During the club meetings and field trips, team members imagine, explore, create, and learn problem-solving skills all while participating in various challenging and fun activities. These activities are only a sampling of the exciting activities that are planned to ensure that students remain focused on the ultimate goals of the club.

The Math Team meets weekly on Mondays from 2:45 p.m. – 4 p.m. Participants are encouraged to promote positive attitudes, ask questions, solve problems, participate in hands-on projects, and otherwise make each activity beneficial and successful in meeting the desired goals and objectives of each activity. Club Sponsors are Elijah R. Swift, Jr., Mathematics Coach, and Maggie Taylor, Kindergarten Teacher.
